Once the Green Archers’ old reliable shooter during their Season 86 championship run, Austria found himself in injuries and shooting slumps in La Salle’s back-to-back title bid in the current season.

No game personified Austria’s season than the squad’s Finals-clinching victory over Adamson, 70-55, in the Final Four at Araneta Coliseum on Saturday.FEATURED STORIES SPORTS RESULTS: UAAP Season 87 basketball Final Four November 30 SPORTS Aaron Black returns and sparks Meralco’s come-from-behind victory over Phoenix SPORTS Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Thunder eliminate Lakers in NBA Cup UAAP: Tough grind makes Kevin Quiambao’s 2nd MVP even more special UAAP MVP Kevin Quiambao and the La Salle Green Archers are moving on to the Finals of the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball tournament after ousting Adamson Falcons UAAP MVP Kevin Quiambao and the La Salle Green Archers are moving on to the Finals of the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball tournament after ousting Adamson Falcons

MANILA, Philippines —The challenge of juggling multiple duties this year made Kevin Quiambao’s conquest of a second straight UAAP Season MVP award even sweeter.

Quiambao led La Salle’s 70-55 rout of Adamson to return to the Season 87 Finals against the University of the Philippines on Saturday evening at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“It’s really special to receive this award. I worked hard for this. I dedicated it to my family before the season started, and to my team, because we spend more time together—my teammates and coaches—than with our families,” Quiambao told reporters after registering 14 points, three rebounds, three steals, two blocks, and two assists.

La Salle forged a Finals rematch against University of the Philippines after defeating Adamson, 70-55, in their Final Four pairing in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament on Saturday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“It’s nice to be back in the Finals,” coach Topex Robinson said. “And I guess we also have to acknowledge Adamson losing [AJ] Fransman and [Jhon] Calisay who are vital parts of the [Adamson] team. They still gave a good fight and that just shows how good that team is. [The Green Archers] did what they’re supposed to do.”

As the favorites of the matchup, the Green Archers wasted no time taking control of the game as early as the opening quarter and never let the Soaring Falcons even get a chance, limiting Adamson to just six points in the second frame. La Salle eventually led by as much as 27 points at one point.

“It’s all about the heart na talagang gusto manalo kahit na mahirap pero still we know na we can do it. Kaya namin manalo despite na lamang sila sa amin. It is understandable to expect that in Final Four stagings, the most competitive showdown will be the one between the No. 2 and No. 3 squads.

The way the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament has turned out, however, will defy that expectation.

La Salle and University of the Philippines (UP) have dominated the tournament, putting such a gulf between them and the rest of the field that both of them seem untouchable on their way to another Finals showdown.
